“You never truly know someone until you walk a mile in their shoes.”
One of the most frequently asked questions I’ve heard at the weekly lunch for people experiencing homelessness in LA is “Do you have any socks?” and unfortunately the answer is too often “No”.
New shoes and socks are like gold to people who find themselves living on the street. It is a small thing that makes a huge difference. So…
We are going to be having an ongoing drive for new shoes and socks. We are going to start locally in Los Angeles with Hollywood United Methodist Church on Franklin and Highland in Hollywood who have a weekly lunch for the homeless every Tuesday from 11am -1pm.
If you are in the LA area you can bring donations of shoes (the more comfortable and practical the better) and/or socks to the church on Sunday during services or Tuesday from 11 – 1pm. You can also mail donations to
Hollywood United Methodist Church 6817 Franklin Avenue Hollywood, CA 90028For other ways to give (food and clothes are always appreciated) go to http://www.hollywoodumc.org
There are a lot of wholesale sock shops where you can purchase new socks to donate. All donations to the church are tax deductible.
If you are not in LA and have a local organization in your area where people can donate socks and shoes please leave a comment let us know. Also let us know when you donate so we can thank you here on our site.
A small donation of time and money can make a huge difference in a person’s life.
Thanks.

This Tuesday there were a lot of socks to be given out at the lunch.
From the look of relief on the faces of everyone who was able to receive a pair, it was a seemingly small thing that made a huge difference in over a hundred lives. Making life a little better for people having a rough time.
Thanks.
